Made from CT scan data, this model is for surgical training for pediatric congenital heart diseases.
This is the first dry lab model in the world that can support training with incisions and sutures that feel nearly identical to actual surgery.
The leading cases of congenital pediatric heart disease were used to create this series.

Though it is possible to train with pig hearts in a wet lab when dealing with adult heart diseases (valvular diseases, coronary bypass surgeries, etc.), dealing with congenital heart diseases requires constructing parts three dimensionally, so the pig heart is not very useful. Furthermore, child heart sizes are small, so a large pig heart will not provide sufficient training, as the sutures cannot be finely reproduced. Wet lab training cannot freely be carried out at anytime, nor can individuals train in the wet lab by themselves. With limited opportunity and time to partake in such training, wet lab training cannot be satisfactorily achieved. Furthermore, there are not many models that are sufficient for allowing surgeons to practice between surgery. And there has never been a surgical training model for congenital pediatric heart diseases. We developed the Surgery Training Model to deal with this situation. The Surgery Training Model can be used for training anywhere, since it does not require work in a dry lab. We hope this leads to improvements in surgical techniques among many beginner and mid-level doctors.

The coronary orifice and valsalva sinus are reproduced extremely well. The texture is soft and slightly stretchy, almost the same as the real thing.
When we simulated surgery with our prior 3D CT model (red rubber), the rubber was hard, making sutures difficult to perform, but this model allows for easy stitching.
The material is perfect for training.
